The unemployment rate in March 2025 changed little at 4.2%, as total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 228,000. Analysts’ median forecast for March was 4.1%, and unemployment was 4.1% in February. Total nonfarm payroll employment was up more than 44% compared to the average monthly gain over the past 12 months.
The number of unemployed people was 7.1 million, and unemployment has stayed between 4% and 4.2% since May 2024.
